ASCII ranges and code forms
Control characters
Non-printing commands inherited from terminals and data transmission: tab, line feed, carriage return, escape, delete, and others.
Printable characters
Space, punctuation, digits 0–9, uppercase A–Z, lowercase a–z, and basic symbols.
The same value in three bases
For example, A is 65 in decimal, 41 in hexadecimal, and 01000001 in an eight-bit binary byte.
Important: ASCII itself is a 7-bit standard. The leading zero in BIN shows how the value is normally stored in an 8-bit byte.

Questions about ASCII
How many characters are in ASCII?
Standard ASCII contains 128 values from 0 to 127: 33 control characters, including DEL, and 95 printable characters, including the space.
Why does the BIN column contain eight bits?
ASCII needs only seven bits. The table pads each value with a leading zero to show the common one-byte representation.
What is the difference between ASCII and Unicode?
ASCII is a 128-character set. Unicode covers writing systems and symbols worldwide, while its first 128 code points match ASCII.
Are codes 128–255 part of ASCII?
No. Those values belong to various 8-bit code pages often called extended ASCII, and their characters depend on the selected encoding.
